Hi! I'm Meliha Taslaman, Manager, Rose of Dubrovnik.

Welcome to my town, Dubrovnik!

My cell phone number is +385915967508. Please key this into your own cell phone now and contact me by text with any enquiries or concerns during your stay. Our front desk is open weekdays from 08:00-18:00hrs; weekends 10:00-15:00 hrs. Otherwise, your landlord will be available for your assistance during your visit.
Thank-you for choosing to book with Rose of Dubrovnik!

Getting to Dubrovnik: see our tips on all forms of transport,  into Dubrovnik, with links to timetables, at Dubrovnik and Transport

On your arrival to Dubrovnik, your landlord will  greet you at the accommodation, finalize payment in euro cash and provide keys and general instructions. Guests are advised to contact the landlord  on or prior to arrival (you will have received the contact details after booking). This is to finalise your meeting and possibly arrange a meeting point, depending on accessibility to cabs/cars. Many accommodations are only accessible to pedestrians or by stairs through the Old Town or immediate surrounds.

Locating your Accommodation: After booking, you will receive the address and contact details of your accommodation and landlord. You will also receive a map reference to refer to Maps of Dubrovnik at our website.

Checking in and out of your accommodation: Check-in time is from 3.00pm, and check-out is by 11.00am. Luggage hold is no longer a service we can provide, but is available to the public at a fee, at the main bus station in Gruz. At times, luggage hold may be negotiated with your landlord.

Climate in Dubrovnik through the year: Dubrovnik is blessed with a warm and sunny Mediterranean climate, and enjoys over 3000 hours of sunshine annually, or over 300 days! Summers are warm, and July and August temperatures peak in the high 30's, and average 25 degrees. Otherwise, Winters are mild, but often rainy, and snow is a fleeting sight we see every couple of years , but remember long after.

Dubrovnik Current 5 Day Weather Forecast:

What to wear: In the warmer months, a wide-brimmed hat, and rubber-soled sandals will be your most welcome attire. Daytime mode is sporty casual, with Summer chic coming to the fore as twilight approaches on the Placa or Stradun and Lapad's famous promenade, and the locals and visitors all come out in the cooling evening air, to strut their stuff, see, and be seen.

What to see in Dubrovnik: Dubrovnik and the surrounding region hold dozens of attractions for the visitor. Many tour operators run seasonal tours or offer year-round personalized tours in and around Dubrovnik. We no longer offer these services, but Meliha will be pleased to recommend various options on you arrival, so be sure to ask.  Otherwise, The "Must Do" shortly after arrival for all visitors, is to don the garb recommended above, and hit the cobblestone paths to the famous and formidable Fortress Walls of Dubrovnik. This 2km walk will orientate you to the Old Town within, and the city outside, and further, to the islands and destinations all around. You will  realize there is so much more to savor in Dubrovnik and find yourself promising a return to our beautiful  city very soon! The Walls walk is amply supplied with refreshment opportunities along the way, and great vantage points for resting, or taking photos. At first site, you will decide to familiarise yourself with the names of each fortress. The Old Town itself holds many hundreds of legends, stories, and secrets within.  Revel in the history of the Rector's Palace, the Sponza's Palace, the church of Sv.Vlaho, the Franciscan Monastery, the Dominican Monastery, the Cathedral of Our Lady's Assumption, the oldest apothecary in Europe, one of Europe's oldest synagogues, the Villa Argentina, the blue dome of the Villa Sheherezada, the Pucic Palace, and much, much more....

A great network of buses will take you around the local districts, to the locals' favorite market at Gruz, the family-friendly beaches, and elegant boutiques of Lapad, or the ACI Dubrovnik marina on the river. Beyond this, either rent a car, or catch a bus, to visit Mlini, Cavtat, or to the north Zaton for great beaches, and enjoy the vineyards and seafood of the rich Peljesac Peninsula, before hopping on a short ferry to Korcula, the birthplace of Marco Polo.

The Elefites islands of Lopud, Sipan, and Kolocep provide a great day trip on with one of the many cruise operators, or simply hop on the Nova ferries with your own picnic hamper, and head for what is arguably one of the best sand beaches in Croatia on Lopud Island. Closer to the Old Town for a half-day outing or more, is the mystical island of Lokrum, which features as a back-drop to many of the classic photos of Dubrovnik, and is just a 15 minute ferry ride across.

Other fun and fascinating destinations for day trips include: Mostar; Medugorije; Plitvice Lakes; Split; Sarajevo snowfields; Konavle countryside; Trsteno Arboretum; Montnegro; Kotor; Budva.

Dubrovnik Beaches   Dalmatian beaches have been appreciated  as being among the world's best cleanest by the world's most knowledgeable and experienced mariners, including Jacques Cousteau himself! We pride ourselves on our natural heritage, and still resist the pressures of time to succumb to the huge coastal developments and multi-nationals. We see ourselves as caretakers of one of the world's most amazing and welcoming coastlines, and love to share our beaches with all who respect their fragile beauty. Many of our beaches are pebbly or rocky, which underlies the incredible clarity and visibility to depths of even fifteen meters in some parts Dalmatia- you'll feel as akin to Alice diving through the green looking glass! We also enjoy some of the world's prettiest sand beaches, with the beach at Sunj (pron.: Shoon-y.), on the island of Lopud ( pron.: Low-pood) being a very pleasant and relaxing day trip across from Dubrovnik on the ferry. Pictured at right here is one of Dubrovnik's most popular and trendy beaches, situated in Ploce, and overlooking the Old Town, the East West Beach Club, or Banje ( pron.: Bun-yeh) Beach; and, pictured below, the dramatically beautiful beach of Sv.Jakov (St.James). All around the Old Town you will peek through holes in the fortress walls leading to  steps inviting you down to the warm sea below. In Lapad enjoy the family-friendly beaches set against the relaxing Promenade. The chill-out beaches at Babin Kuk ( pron.: bobbin kook, and translates as Nana's hip)  are set in the groove amongst the jagged rocks, and the nightclubs and bars of one of the hippest districts in Dubrovnik. Nearby the popular beaches at Cavtat( pron.:Tsuv-tut ) , Plat ( pron.: Plut), Mlini, Srebreno ( pron.: Sreb-ren-oh) to the South; to the north Zaton Mali( pron.: Zu-tonne Mul-y), and Peljesac( pron.: Pel-ye-shuts)  , and just an endless choice of swimming beaches on the nearby surrounding islands!

Rocky beaches will sometimes have a concreted approach or steps into the sea, which we locals have learnt to appreciate  as a way of avoiding tiny sea urchins that often wait in the freshest of shallow water and rocks with their spiny calling cards! Don't forget your "crocs"  here- waterproof beach footwear are an essential accessory to pack for your trip here, and you will soon learn to take the urchins as a blessing instead of a curse, knowing they populate only the cleanest of seas.

Our beaches are such a deeply ingrained part of our national psyche, and the year round warmth of the sea has meant that swimming pools are not as common a part of the local accommodations as some of visitors expect, however, our landlords are always ready to strive to fulfill our visitors' preferences, and pools are becoming a more frequent addition to our properties. Many of the hotels will welcome visitors to their pools at a modest charge, such as the Hotel Uvala in Lapad, which offers comprehensive "Wellness" programmes.

When to visit: Our high season now extends from mid May through to late September, and crowds on the roads and beaches peak in July and August.  April and October are often still warm enough to afford good swimming conditions, with sea temperature reaching above 20 degrees. Winter can also be an inspiring time to visit, with dramatic colors and conditions, without the crowds, that many photographers, poets, and romantic souls prefer. Only three and a half hours' drive away, are the former Olympic ski slopes of Sarajevo. Growing rapidly in popularity and foreign interest, the skiing was popular here last Winter, and next season promises more snow. What a better Winter duet- imagine skiing the slopes of Sarajevo in the morning, and basking in the Winter sun, while sipping warm toddies overlooking the Old Town harbour after lunch.

Currency: Croatia's local currency is the kuna. ATM's are available at many locations all around the Old Town and surrounding districts.

Language: Naturally, Croatian is spoken in most homes in Dubrovnik, but you will find most locals able to converse in at least English. Efforts by visitors to speak Croatian will be welcomed warmly.

Dubrovnik for the Disabled and Health-Restricted

Another reminder that visitors should note Dubrovnik's Old Town is a pedestrian-only area, and mobility of visitors is an important consideration when choosing accommodation. Disabled visitors, or visitors with mobility or health impairments, are very welcome at Rose of Dubrovnik, but are cautioned to read through our guide on the terrain of each suburb or district of Dubrovnik. Being an old town, dating back hundreds of years, paths are often uneven, and steps (and in many instances, many steps) are de rigeur in many parts of the inner city and Old Town. The Old Town has been lovingly and sympathetically restored following the damage by war and other calamities over the many centuries. Lifts were not invented in the middle ages, and guests are advised to book accommodation accordingly, and always ask specifics of each accommodation in terms of accessibility. For guests with mobility limitations, and requiring car access to the door of accommodation, this is better sought in either the districts of Lapad, Gruz, or the close regional towns, with some exceptions in the inner circle of properties. Visitors with skeletal, joint, nervous, heart, lung or other chronic medical conditions are advised to seek advice when enquiring. The Summer warmth should also be a consideration for visitors with health restrictions, with many return visitors opting for the mellower weather during April and September/October. Since you have already selected your accommodation, if you have any concerns about accessibility, please contact management for further suggestions to avoid disappointment on your arrival. Guests are held responsible for their own choices, and our staff will do their best to guide your decision according to the information given to us. Health-restricted guests are often better-advised to choose accommodation away from the steep centre, to avoid as much as possible the many steps of the Old Town, for which it is famous, among other reasons. Accommodations in Gruz, Lapad, and regional towns and islands usually offer relative ease of accessibility, compared to Ploce, Pile, and the Old Town. Gate access into the Old Town is achieved relatively easily by car, cab, bus, or ferry, and once entering the Old Town via Pile or Ploce gates (not the Buza Gate, which demands many steps) , the terrain is more level.

Terms & Conditions are outlined at our website. Any concerns whatsoever regarding your accommodation, or tours booked through us should be directed without delay to our manager, Meliha Taslaman.

During your stay your landlord will make themselves available to assist with any concerns about your accommodation and many of our hosts will delight in offering their local knowledge to help you plan your visit. Meliha is on hand for any other concerns otherwise, and can be contacted by text or phone on her mobile gsm: + 385 (0) 91 596 7508, or by email. The office desk is open weekdays from 08:00-18:00 and weekends 10:00-15:00 hours.

Lastly, Rose of Dubrovnik will contact you after your visit to invite you to feedback to us your experiences, as we strive to improve constantly on our performance as your hosts in our beautiful town, Dubrovnik. Rose of Dubrovnik welcomes you to Dubrovnik!
